A refinement of the airmass approximation in kasten-young-1989: gives a formula for relative optical air mass as a function of true geometric zenith angle rather than the refracted (apparent) angle, still valid to the horizon. This is the more directly applicable of the two where a renderer already knows a star's true unrefracted zenith angle (as computed from geometry, before any atmospheric-refraction correction is applied).
